Farm Truck Brewing is located in Medford, right on Main Street. They will soon be opening a second site in Audubon, at the former home of Red, White, & Brew. My wife and I recently visited their Medford tasting room. This is the second brewery we have visited in Medford ((the other being Lower Forge). They will soon have another, called Magnify Brewing. Meanwhile, back at Farm Truck Brewing, there are two small bars to order and sit around, many small tables with chairs, and an outdoor space with heat lamps for the remaining chilly days and nights.
Though they do not offer a tasting menu, they do have small pours (5 oz.), which worked out fine. We selected the following small pours:
The Brews
- Forging Ahead: Krush– A single hop Pale Ale (Krush) and a very good one. ABV=5.51%.
- Bee Better-A Double IPA with honey. ABV = 7.9%. This is a collaboration with the Magnify Brewing mentioned above (but not yet open to the public).
- Help on the Way-Another Double IPA with Citra, Nectarine, Nelson, and Simcoe hops. ABV=ABV=8.56.
- Fly Through the Night (Rocky Road Stout)-An Imperial Stout with almond, chocolate, and marshmallow. ABV=8.01% Delicious! This would make a nice dessert. Layers of tasty flavors. We look forward to this one being available for take out.
- Barrel Aged: Transitive Nightfall-Barrel aged Imperial Stout; aged in Booker’s Bourbon barrels. ABV=11.01. Also very good, with a bit of a punch to it, yet pretty smooth.
The two Stouts we tried are pictured below (from left to right they are Fly Through the Night and Barrel Aged: Transitive Nightfall).
Before we left, I got a chance to meet one of the partners at Farm Truck Brewing, Brooke Tidswell. He was kind enough to give me a brief tour. The space is much bigger than one would think from viewing from the sidewalk. They will be moving some of their equipment to their new facility in Audubon, which will leave room for a stage for live music. Another large space, not pictured, will be converted into a lounge, where one can kick back, relax, and enjoy a conversation with others.
I must say, we enjoyed our visit, the beers, and the tour! We shall return.
Wine Delivery Services
To state the obvious, I love New Jersey wines. However, I love other wines from around the world, as well. In addition to shopping at local liquor stores (I love Total Wine), I have found wine delivery services have a lot to offer. Below are a few of the wine delivery services I have used:
- wine.com – This one is still my go to. For $69 you get free shipping on orders over $49 for a year. They have a huge inventory from all over the world, with featured specials.
- Wine Spies – I only recently decided to try this service. It is very good for buying premium wines at a large discount. You can buy in small quantities (like three at a time) and save in a “locker” until you have a case or more (when they will ship for free). The negatives are there is a California tax, shipping is done on Fridays, and you may not find out for days after you purchase when delivery is expected (generally up to seven business days). You are also limited to the wines they are currently featuring. But if you are looking for one they are featuring and click quickly (they often sell out of the most popular offers in a hurry).
- Vivino – I have only used this service a couple of times. It was ok, but not my favorite. Not bad, I just found others, especially wine.com to be better for me.
