To all of you fathers out there-Happy Father’s Day!
William Heritage Winery is located in Mullica Hill, but they also have a tasting room in Haddonfield. They have so much to offer. In the past week alone, we attended their Member Appreciation Day in Mullica Hill, their Vino & Vibes was held on Thursday, we picked up our quarterly allotment on Friday, and yesterday utilized our member cards to get two free tasting flights and a free glass of wine for each of us. There was live music going on outside, but it was quite windy and we noticed that only one other table was occupied inside, so we chose a window-side table for two. The above photo shows our two flights, while the photo below shows our quarterly allotment.
Reserve Flight
- 2022 Reserve Grenache Syrah Rose-I loved this Rose, but was surprised by the very pale color (given the grapes utilized). Very nice mouthfeel, with more body than most Rose wines.
- 2022 Reserve Rose-Estate grown; a bit darker than the other Roses, with a bit less body, but a nice mouthfeel.
- 2022 Proprietor’s White Blend-A good blend of Chardonnay (45%); Sauvignon Blanc (21%); Petit Manseng (20%); and Semillon (12%).
- 2022 Reserve White Blend-An even better blend (in my opinion) with 45% Petit Manseng;, 32% Pinot Gris, 17% Chardonnay, and 6% Pinot Blanc.
- 2022 Reserve Sauvignon Blanc-This was included in our quarterly allotment. It is a wonderful Sauvignon Blanc, with lemongrass and lime notes and a bit of grapefruit on the nose and palate. My wife chose it for her free glass.
- Bonus: We each got to taste their draft Chenin Blanc (see comments in Take Away below).
Classic Flight
- Pet-Nat Rose-Generally not a big fan of Pet-Nats, but this one was pretty good.
- Select Rose-Sourced from Lake County, California. It is a pretty salmon color with pink grapefruit notes and lively acidity.
- Select Chardonnay-An unoaked Chardonnay, also sourced from Lake County, California and aged in stainless steel. Citrusy, medium-bodied, with a very soft mouthfeel.
- Jersey Dry Syrah-Berries on the nose and blackberry on the palate.
- 2021 Cabernet Franc-A very nice, medium-bodied, estate grown, Cab Franc with traditional cherry and bell pepper notes. I chose this one for my free glass.
Food
Though they offered pizza from a food truck next door, we decided to go with a hummus platter with vegetables and a spinach and asiago cheese dip with chips and cherries.
Our Take Away
Finally, we decided to come home with that excellent Chenin Blanc. Since it is only available right now by the glass or in their bottle size thermal growlers, we chose the latter to go. The Chenin Blanc really was a nice surprise. I was expecting an off-dry white, but this one only exhibited a hint of sweetness, good body and acidity, with a very refreshing finish. At William Heritage Winery you get a lot of bang for your buck as a member.

Wildfether Distilling
Wildfether Distilling is located on Kings Highway in Haddonfield (a few blocks away from William Heritage’s Haddonfield Tasting Room). It occupies a historical building called the Jennings House, built in 1857. The distillery has only been open for about three weeks, but they have already become a popular spot to unwind. We decided to arrive when they opened (3:00 on Friday). They have an attractive eclectically furnished and decorated main tasting room, with an additional cocktail bar upstairs, a separate event area, and two outdoor patios.
My wife and I got to try four of the cocktails (no worries-two each, not four each)
- Tropic of Cancer-(My wife’s astrological sign)- Vodka, pineapple, Pandan (a dark green plant with a vanilla-like aroma) and lime.
- Flower Power-Bourbon, chamomile, elder flower, lemon, and clover honey. Very tasty!
- Root & Rye-Rye Whiskey, Sassafras, forrest bitter, lemon, and soda, “Root beer meets whiskey highball”-great description and great drink!
- 1983 Martini-Vodka, coffee, chicory root, orange peel, coconut cream. Delicious version of an espresso martini.
Next time, I’d like to try their Return on Investment (Bourbon, Gentian Root, Birch Bark, and House Bitters)…and perhaps sit on the upper deck or their front porch and watch the passers by. They are open Thursdays (4-10); Fridays (3-11); Saturdays (12-11); and Sundays (12-7).
Coming Attractions
- Perhaps a surprise or two!
- Unionville Vineyards
- Angelico Vineyards
- Va La Vineyards
