Brotherton Brewing Company is located in Atco. It is a wonderful venue that opened its doors in 2015. In addition to their large bar area, they also have a smaller room for “overflow” on busy days when the large outdoor seating is not feasible due to weather conditions. See the photo of the bar area below.
My Brews
- Brotherton IPA (ABV=6.6%)-A very good IPA; not over-the-top hoppy, well-balanced and tasty.
- Pine Barrens Pilsner (ABV=5.0%)-True to its style, only German hops and German pils malt are used. The result is a very good Pils with more flavor (and color) than most national brands and offering a crisp, clean finish.
- Swarthy Invader Imperial Stout (ABV=9.6%)-My favorite in the tasting; a full-bodied stout, conditioned in previously used Buffalo Trace Bourbon barrels. Fantastic! Unfortunately it is only available in a growler to go.
- When the Curtain Falls:Batch 1 (ABV=6.2%)-A blonde farmhouse style beer. It is malty, but still dry, with floral hops.
My Wife’s Brews
As usual my wife and I got to taste each others’ choices.
- Jersey Devil DIPA Double IPA (ABV=8.4%)-Perhaps my second favorite in our tastings, it is potent, but very smooth and well-balanced (more balanced than you may be if you have a few pints of this one). It is hazy, aromatic, and yummy!
- Drip Down IPA (ABV=6.5%)-My least favorite, but still a pretty good IPA.
- Swarthy Invader=Described above
- O’Ryan’s Dry Stout (ABV=5.0%)-Irish-style Stout with creamy chocolate notes. A wonderful Stout!
I like the takeout feature of being able to combine two or more brews to make your own four-pack. I chose to take home two of their Dry Irish Stouts and two of their DIPA. (See photo below). I will definitely be back. Next time I will remember that there is parking behind the brewery. We parked a few blocks away, but at least it was a nice day for a walk.
Our Takeaways
A tasty duo of Brotherton’s DIPA and their Dry Irish Stout (shown below):
National Wine Day
To celebrate National Wine Day, I chose a fantastic New Jersey wine from Cape May Winery, called simply CM3. This is a wonderful full-bodied red blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Syrah. This is their premium red wine that is aged for three years in French oak. It is fruit forward with lots of cherry, blueberry, and chocolate on the palate and very smooth tannins. It was the perfect pairing with my wife’s meatloaf.
Cheers!
