Brook Hollow Winery is located in a very scenic section of Warren County, in the heart of the Delaware Water Gap area of the state. The tasting room is beautiful and fairly large with a 100-foot-long covered porch which overlooks the vineyards and the Pocono Mountains in the distance. The idyllic setting is complimented by some very good wines. Owner and winemaker, Paul Ritter makes several classic white and red wines, as well as their very popular Cranberry Wine. Their wines are a part of the Warren Hills AVA (American Viticultural Area-an area that is recognized and designated as having a certain geographic pedigree unique to that area by the federal government). More on AVA’s in a later blog.
Paul Ritter (owner and winemaker) makes the following white wines: Chardonnay, White Table Wine (Tala – dessert-style Gewürztraminer), Cayuga White, Dry Riesling, Sweet Riesling and Vidal Blanc. Their reds include Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cab Franc. They also make a very popular Cranberry Wine. 25% of the proceeds from the sales of their White Table Wine are donated to the Lakota Wolf Preserve. I didn’t know our state has a wolf preserve and think it’s great that this winery is helping the cause. So have a glass and do a good deed yourself!
My favorites were their Chardonnay, Merlot and Cab Franc, though I was pleasantly surprised and impressed with the Cranberry Wine, as I don’t usually like fruit wines. I look forward to going back soon and enjoying one (or all) of these while taking in the beautiful scenery and enjoying some live music in the country air.
Brook Hollow is open Tuesday through Thursday between Noon and 5 PM; Fridays between Noon and 8:30 PM with music and food between 6-8:30 PM; and Saturday and Sunday Noon until 6 PM. They are closed on Monday.
