A new and unique NJ winery, Iron Plow grows all of their own grapes, offers some interesting wines to taste, and features live music on their deck. I tasted both of their Vidal Blancs (preferring the 2013 to the 2014), their Ives Noir (not a Pinot Noir, but a dark red), their Cab Franc, and their Iron Plow Red, 2013. I was disappointed that their Chambourcin was sold out, but was allowed to try a bonus sixth wine for my $8 – Hopped Up, a unique Vidal (also called India Pale Vidal, because Cascade hops are added to balance the aroma and flavor). I battled my initial resistance to drinking wine with hops and was glad I did. It was actually quite good. Very creative!
The day we were there (a Sunday) the music was an interesting two man jazz group with each playing multiple instruments. A nice glass of Cab Franc, a beautiful day to enjoy the sun and views of the vineyard, while listening to a couple of talented musicians (with no cover charge). The staff here couldn’t be any nicer. A very cool spot.
